Becky creates a nurturing environment for students to explore the initial experience of being suspended or upside down. She appreciates the hammock not only for the new awareness it offers, but for the playfulness and freedom it inspires.
The first Unnata Aerial Yoga instructor in the Midwest, and co-creator of Aerial Play & FitnessTMin 2011, Becky completed her yoga 200-hour yoga teaching certification in 2005 and continued her studies in yoga therapeutics. For five years she coordinated the 230-Hour Teacher Training Program at the Yoga Center of Minneapolis. She began training aerial tissu in 2006 and in 2009 began teaching aerial yoga. Becky now teaches as one of the three Unnata® Teacher Trainers in the USA under Michelle Dortignac, creator of Aerial Yoga (later coined Unnata® Aerial Yoga). She is also a certified TRX Suspension teacher.
My curiosity for movement has kept me exploring throughout life… from meditation, stillness, and somatic movement to breakdancing, capoeira, and flying trapeze. Through my explorations I’ve remained a faithful yogi and aerialist. As someone who has faced chronic illness, I appreciate both the gifts and frustrating lessons of the body. My most cherished teaching moments usually involve creative adaptation on the hammock for different ability, mobility, or size. I respect and try to address the challenges of the whole human experience in my teaching. Sometimes this just looks like me acting like a goofball… but in coming from this perspective, I can meet students in a place of creativity to explore what IS possible, rather than what isn’t.
