How Do Other “Yoga Hammocks” Stack Up?

Think that a 250 lb rating for your aerial equipment is enough? Not even close. Because a person can put forces of up to 10 times their bodyweight on aerial equipment, your gear needs to be rated for even MORE than that. If a company doesn’t list the strength of the components of their hammock, it’s a big red flag. We are transparent about our ratings, and since not everyone is… we’ve done the research for you. Here’s the inside scoop on Anti-Gravity hammocks as well as the yoga/fitness hammocks sold by merchant sites like Amazon:

Fitness Hammocks
$60-150Flimsy & Limiting
  • LOOK:
  • Parachute fabric (Crepe-like nylon)
  • FEEL:
  • No horizontal stretch means it cuts dangerously in to your arms, thighs, and crotch.
  • SIZE:
  • So tiny that only a handful of aerial yoga and fitness exercises can be done!
  • HARDWARE:
  • S-hooks (unknown metal) unrated strength; because they do not lock, or even close, the fabric has a tendency to slip off the hook. Unsafe! Never used in the circus world.
  • DAISY CHAINS:
  • Only 1 weak row of stitching; Insufficient weight-rating for aerial movement.
  • INSTRUCTIONS PROVIDED for washing only
  • Made in China/Taiwan by fitness equipment companies without aerial expertise.
Aerial Yoga Online
$115-140More fabric, affordable, strong
  • LOOK:
  • 7 yards professional aerial fabric, slight shine, NO LOGO.
  • FEEL:
  • Horizontal stretch (no vertical) makes it safe and comfortable on your skin
  • SIZE:
  • Adjustable size (via fabric and webbing) to allow for ALL aerial yoga, fitness, & acrobatic work.
  • HARDWARE:
  • Steel carabiners with locking screwgate, 6,700lb rating (Steel fails by slowly bending, thus preferred by professionals)
  • DAISY CHAINS:
  • 3 stitching rows, each loop rated for 3,400 lbs. Can take repeated falls and the dynamic, swinging force of tricks.
  • SETUP:
  • Webbing is not noosed around knots, meaning fabric pulls more evenly through the knots and remains protected.
  • INSTRUCTIONS PROVIDED for washing, setup, and alternate configurations for foot stirrups and pilates/traditional tissue use.
  • Made in the USA by people who care about you and directly answer your questions.
Anti-Gravity Hammock
$249Poor Quality & Overpriced
  • LOOK:
  • 4 yards professional aerial fabric, slight shine, giant logo.
  • FEEL:
  • Horizontal stretch (no vertical) makes it safe and comfortable on your skin
  • SIZE:
  • Several feet shorter than a traditional hammock, meaning you are limited when standing in the fabric and when wanting to grab high on the fabric.
  • HARDWARE:
  • Aluminum carabiners (Aluminum fails by snapping without warning and is meant to be frequently replaced.) with NO LOCK (doesn't meet industry standards)
  • DAISY CHAINS:
  • 2 stitching rows, each loop only rated for 675 lbs and per the manufacturer, is NOT designed to take bodyweight falls or bouncing. Thus, the stitching loops wear out with repeated use and you'll have to pay to replace them.
  • SETUP:
  • The webbing "CHOKES" the fabric, wearing out the fabric and making it difficult to inspect wear.
  • NO INSTRUCTIONS on assembly or washing, and NO alternative configurations available.
  • Made in the USA by a corporate franchise.
